Six years ago, our colleague Helen Mahari helped Amir, a former Kompass participant, find a nursing training program in Berlin. Today, he is a certified nurse and still connected to JOBLINGE. His unique story was previously featured on ARTE: Amir lived in a shared apartment with Agnes, who was 101 years old at the time. Now their story is being released as “Lieblingsmenschen.”
Amir joined us in February 2020, right before the first lockdown. At that time, Amir had been in Germany for just over half a year. He was still going through the asylum process, had successfully completed his integration course, and had learned about JOBLINGE through friends.
He had already earned a bachelor’s degree in sports science in Iran and was forced to discontinue his master’s program in sports pathology and sports medicine in his fourth semester due to his flight to Germany.
Through JOBLINGE, he completed an internship in nursing at a hospital and not only received an offer for an apprenticeship but also continued working there until his apprenticeship began. However, his wish was to move to Berlin. After his request for reassignment was granted and he initially stayed with friends, he moved to Berlin and began an apprenticeship in nursing there.
About a year later, he told Helen that everything was going very well. He also had a part-time job. Two years later, he wrote to her again after the documentary about Agnes and him had been released.

Then he meets Agnes.
101 years old—but Agnes wouldn’t hear of moving into a nursing home. So she chose a shared apartment instead. Amir moves in. Roommates become friends who look out for one another. For three years, they share their daily lives. A friendship brought to life by Nordpolaris in the film “Lieblingsmenschen.”
